Celebrations at the end of a good year!

The doors are opening on a new era of development for the Preparatory School, as departing Head Mrs Jane Evans, who has steered the school through the past 12 months, including a double dose of inspectors from ISI and OFSTED within the space of two weeks, praised past and present staff for their sterling work, as well as for their unstinting support during her year at the helm.

She said the school had battled swine flu, snow and volcanic ash and power cuts.

Nonetheless, the ISI report, overseen by OFSTED, concluded that in the Early Years’ provision was outstanding, while the remainder of the school provided a fine academic education for all pupils, in a supportive and stimulating environment.

She paid tribute to the teaching staff and assistants who had inspired the children with their creative and imaginative teaching and said, “All the children have enjoyed the many trips and work shops this year all of which enhance their education and learning.”

Mrs Evans said she was astounded by the high standards of art, music, drama and sport and paid tribute to Mrs Nonie Worsfold, Director of Sport, who is retiring after 27 years.

“Much of the development of the PE department has been down to Mrs Worsfold and although generations of pupils have quaked in their boots when they have forgotten some PE kit, we all have Mrs Worsfold to thank for the marvellous reputation this school enjoys on the sporting field,” she said.

Of the 153 pupils to take LAMDA exams (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art), all passed – 55 with a Distinction and 44 with Merit.

From September, Mr Richard Johnson, 44, takes over as Headmaster, while his new Deputy will be Miss Claire Corkran, from Copthorne Prep School in Sussex.  Miss Philippa McCarmick becomes new Head of Pre-Prep.

Mrs Evans concluded with one final message for the Year 6 Leavers saying, “You are ready and lucky to have benefited from all that this wonderful school has to offer.  Lucky, as I have been, to have had this special year.”

Prizes were presented by Dr Elizabeth Vallance JP, PhD, FCGI (The Lady Vallance).
